How to Clean a Bathtub
How to clean a bathtub? This might seem like a pretty easy task. However, it can be tough if you do not know where to start. Furthermore, it is confusing with all the cleaning products that exist.
On top of that, some bathtubs are difficult to clean since they might have an intricate design. So how do you get rid of soap residue, hard water build-up, or rust stains without spending an entire day scrubbing your bathtub? We'll talk you through what you need to keep yours clean and to get that beautiful shine again.
How Often Should You Clean Your Bathtub?
How often you clean your bathtub depends on how much you use it and how well you take care of the surface. Ideally, you should give it a quick wipe down after each use using a damp microfibre cloth or sponge. If this isn't possible, then wiping it down with a dry cloth once a week will remove any scum build-up.
For a bath that is used regularly, it is recommended that you give it a routine clean weekly and a deep clean once a month. It also helps to clean the shower curtain regularly if you have one, as this will prevent mold build-up and keep your bathroom smelling fresh. Depending on how dirty the tub gets, you may want to clean it more often than this. Give it a quick wipe down before each use if necessary to keep the dirt and germs at bay.

How to Deep Clean a Bathtub
Here is a step-by-step guide on cleaning your bathtub with ease, as recommended by experts in the field.
- Treat the drain - over time, hair—along with soap remnants and body fats can bind together and accumulate in drains. Hot water alone won't shift it. Using sink strainers or drain covers is a smart way to deal with the problem before it happens, although a regular treatment is required as well.
HG Hair Unblocker is a product you can use to clean bathroom drains. To use, add the contents of the first bottle from the pack into the drain, followed by the contents of the second bottle, leave for an hour and rinse. It is made with potassium hydroxide, which dissolves hair build-up, soap remnants, and other blockages in drains. Water will flow freely through it after cleaning the drain. - Clean the tiled walls - if you have a free standing bathtub you can skip this step. As we should clean top to bottom to so that dirt doesn't rinse onto an area we have already cleaned, we start with the walls and tiles around the tub. Flash Spray with Bleach is ideal as it's tough of stains, making the product suitable for mould growth that often builds up around tile grout. Spray onto the area you're cleaning, leave for a minute, then wipe and rinse with a microfibre cloth. If you have any tough stains that are difficult to remove, use a scrubbing brush to scrub before the wipe and rinse.
- Clean the taps - taps often become covered in soap scum and are the main area where limescale builds up. Apply Viakal onto the taps and leave for 5 minutes. Use an old toothbrush to agitate the limescale and rinse, followed by a buffing with a microfibre cloth for a shiny finish. You can also use this method to clean the metal plug and plug hole fittings, as well as the overflow grating.
- Clean the tub - the tub consists of the full area of the bath, including the rim, interior walls and bath floor. These areas are also liable to limescale build up, although you might not realise it! Limescale can build up on the surface of the bath and can turn a yellowish off-white. You might not realise until after cleaning when your tub is it's normal colour!
Using the Viakal 3in1 Bathroom Spray, spray all the surfaces of the bath and leave for 5 minutes. Wipe with a microfibre coth, or agitate with a scrubbing brush for touger marks. Rinse with warm water to remove any remaining residue.
