How to Clean an Induction Hob

The induction hob is an efficient way to cook and heat. An induction hob ring has copper coils beneath the surface and when a magnetised pan is placed in contact with the hob, current is generated to create heat. Induction hobs are as responsive and fast to heat as gas. However, it’s important to keep it clean. Otherwise, you’ll find that your pans don’t heat up very well, and your hob doesn’t work as efficiently.

If the surface of your induction hob is clogged with spilt food and fat build-ups, it can make it more difficult for pots and pans to sit flat on the surface. This means that you won’t be able to complete a magnetic circuit that enables the pan to heat up properly. Some good news for induction hob owners is that the hob heats the pan directly, and not the surface, so at least any spillage doesn't burn on the surface of the hob!

To keep your induction hob in good working condition, we recommend cleaning it every time you use it. Alternatively, at least once a week if you use it less frequently.

We recommend the following induction hob cleaners:

Cleaning a hob is straightforward. However, there are a few things to bear in mind to ensure that you get the best results:

  • You can clean your hob with the same products you use in the kitchen for cleaning surfaces and glasswork, you don't need a specific induction hob cleaner. This includes soapy water, vinegar, and glass cleaners. However, always read your hobs instructions so that you do not use a product that will damage your hob.
  • The key to cleaning an induction hob is not to use anything abrasive or metallic. That means no steel wool or scourers, no caustic chemicals like bleach or oven cleaner, and no knives or sharp implements. This will scratch the surface of your hob and this damage may be irrepairable.

How to Clean an Induction Hob

Here is a step by step guide on how to clean an induction hob:

  1. Step 1: Remove the Mess
If you have been using the hob, please turn off and allow it to cool down. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any spills or splatters on the hob surface.
  2. Step 2: Use Degreaser
To remove grease, dirt, and other sticky residues from the surface of your induction hob, use a degreaser. Degreasers are strong chemicals that dissolve grease and oil from surfaces, but they can be harsh on the skin. Wear rubber gloves when using them, and keep children and pets away from the area.
Apply the degreaser directly to the surface of your hob, and wipe with a microfibre cloth. Wipe off any excess residue with a second dry cloth.
Although the degreaser will remove any dirt and grease, it may also leave watermarks on your hob. To prevent this from happening, wiping away any excess degreaser will leave a dry surface ready for buffing to a shine.
  3. Step 3: Spray With Glass Cleaner
Glass cleaner should be used to polish your hob to a shine. Glass cleaners are perfect for this job because they contain chemicals that break down oil and grease and make them easier to remove from the surface of your induction hob.
Spray the glass cleaner lightly over the full surface of your hob the surface of your hob.
  4. Buff to a Shine
Using a clean microfibre cloth wipe wipe over the hob top in a circular motion, applying light pressure. This will buff the surface to a shine. Glass cleaners are formulated to prevent streaks being left on the surface, so your hob will be shinier than ever!
If any areas remaining with streaks or watermarks, spray and buff this area again. Repeat this process until all the stains are removed from your hob.

Your induction hob is clean and ready for cooking. Enjoy!
